The discrete trial has been a well documented as an effective tool to evaluate and teach language and basic skills to children with autism.  However, it is oftern time consuming for the teacher because the preperation is tedious and the procedure itself requires a tremendous amount of concentration on the teacher's part if done properly.   Keeping up with the proper correction procedure, maintaining accurate data, and interacting with the student properly all require the full attention of the teacher.

Direct Teach Time takes the discrete trial procedure and automates it with web-based software so the record keeping and correction procedure is done for the teacher.  It has been built with direct input from teachers using the software in the classroom, and even though much work is yet to be done, the system has already shown a great improvement in student learning over the old way of doing things.

I'm currently evaluating some services provided by Amazon Web Services.  I've avoided this in the past because it seemed that the skills required to build and manage these services was too steep to be cost effective short-term.

But, after revisiting the idea due to the need for a good email service, I'm going to have to seriously reconsider.  Their API seems to have improved tremendously, and they have SDK's for almost any language you would need.  

The ability to scale on demand is very attractive.  More to come....
